More Than Just Another Church
Basílica da Estrela is one of Lisbon’s most remarkable monuments, a place where architecture, history, and spirituality meet. To strengthen its relevance among new generations and affirm its cultural significance, it became essential to create a renewed identity that could honour its legacy while presenting it in a contemporary and accessible way.
Alfred Creative was entrusted with redefining the entire brand universe, from strategic positioning to visual identity and communication.
The new identity centres on the Basilica’s iconic dome. More than an architectural element, it reflects the monument’s presence, serenity, and immediate recognizability. Simple yet emblematic, the dome captures the essence of a space that is both historic and transcendent.
The naming was also reconsidered because, despite being popularly known as Basílica da Estrela, in religious terms it has other names and denominations, which had to be strategically reorganized and prioritized to become more accessible to society in general.
A timeless typographic approach reinforces the institution’s heritage, supported by a color palette inspired by the marble tones and classical architecture of the Basilica. These choices convey sophistication, spirituality, and elegance.
The result is a cohesive and contemporary identity that expands the Basilica’s cultural reach while preserving its authenticity.
